January 20, 2014 is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This federal holiday is an opportunity to honor his legacy through service to empower and strengthen communities.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life to leading the Civil Rights Movement until his death in 1968. Notably, in 1963 he delivered his famous, “I Have a Dream” speech during the March on Washington where more than 200,000 participants gathered. Dr. King is the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his unrelenting work in the Civil Rights Movement.
His work is remembered and as a tribute to his life, millions throughout the nation will come together to volunteer and honor his legacy. There are countless ways to commemorate this day.
Join fellow marchers in the parade today. Participants will congregate at the Dr. King memorial site in City Park at 9 a.m. and begin marching together to Civic Center Park at 10 a.m. The National Western Stock Show will host The Martin Luther King Jr. African-American Rodeo of Champions at 6 p.m. on January 20, 2014.
