Following the Switchbacks!

Hello! My name is Marianella and I am an attorney at the Wilhite Law Firm.

As a native Peruvian, we live and breathe soccer. Such is the passion for the sport that I still remember my family’s biggest debate every Sunday morning: deciding whether to attend church or go watch our local soccer team.

That’s why, as soon as I moved to Colorado, my first order of business was to get acquainted with soccer teams based in the stat

My two children have the best time going to Rapids’ games, but this year we decided to support the Switchbacks, a Colorado Springs-based team that currently plays in the USL Championship, the professional league second to Major League Soccer (MLS). The games have been equally or more exciting than MLS games and we have gotten much needed dose of live soccer!

The Switchbacks’ home stadium is Weidner Field, which is in downtown Colorado Springs and has capacity for 8,000 fans. The location is very convenient for us since we live in Monument. After each game, fans can enjoy fireworks and music.  My kids really enjoy the show no matter how many times they have already seen it.

We love going to this stadium for many reasons. There are various ticket options such as Field Club tickets, which includes food and drinks. The food was delicious in our opinion and not what you would ordinarily find in a sports event.  The stadium also offers seating in the Founders Club, which is on the second floor, as well as the Sky Club which is on the third floor. Another option are the cabanas, a more private way to see the game with friends and family.

Although the Switchbacks’ fanbase is smaller than most in the professional league, the ambience at the stadium is happy and cheerful!  You can feel the good energy by listening to the singing, the drums, and the chants. Every time I go to a game, I am taken back to those days in which I would go to the stadium with my dad in Peru.

One of my kids’ favorite aspect of attending a Switchbacks game, is that they get to see their mascot: Ziggy. Ziggy is a mountain goat from the Rocky Mountains that brings smiles and fun experiences to all fans, especially children. As a fun fact, Ziggy was ranked among the four best mascots in the League a few years ago, and since then became a very popular mascot. He is so much fun to watch.

Another great benefit of supporting the Switchbacks is its affordability. A season ticket can cost around $200! Being a mom of two kids, this is a great plus. Also, we rarely have issues finding parking near the stadium!

The championship is at a very exciting stage and now is the best time to support the Switchbacks! There are only three games left before the regular season ends, and the top four teams of each division will advance to the USL playoffs. Currently, the Switchbacks are third in the Mountain Division of the Western Conference.

We are excited to see them go to the playoffs.

The final is on November 28!

Go Switchbacks!
